Pomoriiski Monastery “St George Pobedonosec” is located just 20 km of the city of Bourgas, almost on the sea shore. This is a working monastery and the story says that the first monks came here in 3-4 c., and in 7th century the monastery already existed. In 14th century the Turkish destroyed the monastery.
The legend says that in 17 c. the monastery was rebuilt, thanks to the Turkish Selim Bei. The bishop at this time manages to develop the monastery. He starts teaching ignorant priests, and as well builds a kitchen and makes available 40 beds, where they can eat and sleep. In 1996 a 20 m high tower with belfry was built, which is still recognized as a symbol of the monastery.

The celebration day of the Monastery and the town of Pomorie, too, is on May 6. This is usually marked by 3-days fest, which people from all over the country come to visit.
