Zlatograd is situated at the heart of the Rhodopes, about 300km south-east from Sofia, 150km south of Plovdiv and 70km from the resort complex Pamporovo.
Zlatograd - a miracle, moulded by the past and the present. The town keeps the perfect sense of beauty and harmony. You will be amazed at your very arrival by the majestic monument of the citizen Delyo, whos acts of heroism are included in the lyrics of the greatest Bulgarian song. In order to have a real adventure to the past you have to visit the ethnographic complex of the town. You will be amazed of the authentic masterpieces of the local craftsmen. Do not miss to visit the oldest church "Uspenie Bogorodichno" in the middle Rhodopes and hear the unique story of a sultan, allowing the building of a Christian temple.
You can also enjoy the beauty of the "St. Atanas" chapel. It is beautifully situated on a hill by the town and is a challenge for the enthusiasts of the pedestrian tourism.
The situation of the chapels "St. Atanas", "St. Nedelya", "St. Iliya" and "St. Constantine and Elena" is very interesting - they are situated on the four tops in the surroundings of Zlatograd in the shape of a cross. The town is believed to be protected by them.
